The 2nd JMK Flash Fiction Contest (Update Notice!)

Writers will maintain complete ownership of their stories, however, by submitting your entry, participants authorize the posting of their stories to the Johnnie Mae King website and corresponding social media accounts- accompanied by the author credits.

1st place - $500
2nd place - $300
3rd place - $200
Five Honorable Mentions will receive $50 each.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
Contest winners will be selected by community votes. The stories that registers the most "likes" by the cut-off/selection date will be awarded winners of the contest. Monetary prizes are listed below.
Contest opens for submissions: 1 November 2024
Contest submissions made public for community judging: NEW DATE: 24 November 2024
Selection date for stories with most "likes": 8 December, 11:59pm
Winners announced: 10 December 2024
From 10 November onward, the public will have access to read all submitted stories. However, in order to like, share, or engage with comments, users must create a free profile.
* Upon the completion and selection of contest winners, all stories will remain published on the JMK writing platform for visitors to read and fully engage with. Good luck.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
2. Write an original Johnnie Mae King story using the character's backstory [found here] as a basis for your narrative.
3. Keep your story between 300 words (min) and 500 words (max).
4. Create your fictional story in any writing genre of your choosing.
5. Do not submit AI generated content. All stories selected as finalists will be scanned by multiple AI detector applications.
6. Submission Window: 1-24 November 2024
7. Contest submissions are made public for community judging on 24 November.
8. Anyone that signs up with a free JMK account can contribute to the voting by liking any or all of the entries submitted in the contest from 24 November til 8 December.
9. December 9th: Selection for entries with most community likes.
10. December 10th: Winners announced.
Note: All entries will remain published on the JMK Creative Writing platform for visitor engagement.
